Career and Professional Development's Career Week began today with two engaging events: Professional Resume Workshop and STARbucks & the Interview. Both events were well attended by Dalton State students eager to learn about career readiness.
"I am excited with the turnout to our first day of Career Week events hosted by Shaw Industries. It shows that Dalton State students are career-focused and are getting career-ready," said Mallory Safley, assistant director of Career and Professional Development. "The rest of the week is jam-packed with other career-related topics aimed at preparing our students for whatever that next chapter is beyond Dalton State, with speakers from Mohawk Industries, Steam Logistics, The Peace Corps and the City of Dalton."

- LinkedIn or Left Out, hosted by Steam Logistics, on Tuesday, Feb. 7, at 2 p.m. in Peeples Hall, room 112
- Free Headshot Day on Wednesday, Feb. 8, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Gignilliat Hall lobby
- Volunteering and Your Career, hosted by the Peace Corps, on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 12:30 p.m. in Gignilliat Hall, room 101
- It’s All About the Buck$, hosted by the Dalton Joint Development Authority and Greater Dalton Chamber of Commerce, on Thursday, Feb. 9, at 11 a.m. in Gignilliat Hall, room 125
- Why Intern?, hosted by Mohawk Industries, on Thursday, Feb. 9 at 12:30 p.m. in the Goodroe Auditorium
- Salary Negotiating 101, hosted by Career and Professional Development, Friday, Feb. 10, at 10 a.m. in the Pope Student Center, Eddie Miller Room
The Professional Resume Workshop, hosted by Shaw Industries, included presentations by Shaw Industries' Learning Academy professionals. Presenters provided resume writing instructions and gave participants an opportunity to receive feedback on existing resumes. 
STARbucks & the Interview included a presentation by Mary Ann Sasser, part-time instructor for the Wright School of Business. Sasser reviewed the STAR method for answering interview questions. STAR stands for Situation, Task, Action and Result. Students were given the opportunity to work in pairs and practice answering interview questions using the STAR method. Participants received a free Starbucks drink card to use in the Roadrunner Cafe following the event.
